1617 post offices functional in J&K: GoI | KNO

Srinagar, Dec 04 (KNO): The Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar has informed the Parliament that there are 1617 post offices operational in Jammu and Kashmir, providing postal, financial, and insurance services. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Dr. Sekhar stated that there are 1617 post offices in Jammu and Kashmir, covering a total area of 1,20,355 sq km, with an average of 74.43 sq km served per post office. “The radius of the average area served by each post office is 4.86 km,” he said, adding that the opening of new post offices is an ongoing process, and new offices are opened in needy and justified areas based on prescribed norms. He added that during the financial year 2023-24, 34 new post offices were opened to increase accessibility in remote and unbanked areas of Jammu and Kashmir. He further said that the process of opening new post offices continues based on the needs and prescribed norms—(KNO)
